Economic Development

A lively business district is critical to maintaining a vibrant urban neighborhood. It promotes healthy activity on the streets, attracts visitors, generates jobs, increases safety, and serves the daily needs of residents. The CID is popular for its dozens of family-run ethnic businesses and restaurants. Many visitors come to the neighborhood to access professional, health-care and social services, often stopping to dine or pick up groceries; however, as the market becomes increasingly crowded, our neighborhood must find ways to remain competitive and keep up with trends.

SCIDpda promotes our neighborhood’s economic development as both a property manager and a resource for small business assistance. We maintain our commercial/retail spaces at rents that are affordable to our small neighborhood business owners and nonprofits.

Through our design and resource center, IDEA Space, we are working with neighborhood businesses to implement a retail strategy and marketing plan to attract new visitors and entrepreneurs to the CID. We also connect businesses with resources and assistance in areas like façade improvements, marketing, and finance. In addition, we are helping to keep the neighborhood clean and welcoming by organizing regular neighborhood cleanups and working with the city on streetscape improvements and a Clear Alleys Program.
