Real Estate Development

In addition to currently owning and/or managing affordable housing for more than 700+ low-income residents and 200,000 square feet of commercial/retail space for dozens of independent businesses, neighborhood nonprofits, and service providers, we have developed new projects and rehabilitated historic buildings to meet the community’s needs and encourage future growth in the Chinatown International District.

SCIDpda has worked to preserve and celebrate the unique history of the Chinatown International District for over 40 years.

Beginning in the early 1980s, SCIDpda’s Real Estate Development started with SCIDpda’s purchase and renovation of the Bush Hotel, transforming the historic hotel into a mixed use building featuring both commercial and residential space. SCIDpda continued to develop several other buildings in the neighborhood to be made suitable for commercial space and affordable housing.

Today, SCIDpda’s Real Estate Development continues to implement physical development projects that enhance and support the mission of SCIDpda, provide major upgrades to SCIDpda-owned buildings to prolong the useful life of these assets, identify opportunities on non-SCIDpda projects that further our mission through technical assistance and consultation, and partner with non-profits and for-profit developers and organizations to develop projects in the CID and beyond.

Through our own developments and our work with local property owners, we help envision how the buildings that tell past and continuing local stories can help our community to thrive.
