SCIDpda is proud to announce that it will be managing and maintaining the housing portion of the Atlas Building, as well as providing maintenance services for both its housing and commercial tenants. This new chapter in the building’s history continues the legacy of Barry Mar, who managed the Atlas Building on behalf of his family’s ownership for many years until his passing in 2021.
Barry Mar took over the management of the Atlas Building after the passing of his father, Frank Mar, in 1979. Over the decades, he became a dedicated steward of the property and a pivotal figure in the Seattle Chinatown International District community. As the chair of the steering committee that founded SCIDpda in 1975, Barry was a long-time supporter of our organization and its mission.
Reflecting on Barry’s enduring impact, SCIDpda Co-Executive Director Jared Jonson stated, “Barry always said that if anything ever happened to him, he would want SCIDpda to take over management of the building and care of its residents. We are happy to be fulfilling those wishes!”
SCIDpda is honored to carry forward Barry Mar’s legacy by ensuring the continued care and management of the Atlas Building, in service to its residents and tenants.
